2016 Goals NOT Resolutions

9:00 AM

I'm not one that is typically keen on New Year Resolutions simply because they always felt to me like things you say you'll do because you find flaws in yourself (i.e. lose weight, eat better, etc). Plus they also seem like things that start off with good intentions but then dwindle as you lose interest or motivation. Ultimately you have to be in the right mindset for the majority of resolutions and when they aren't an easy fix it's more convenient to move on. I know it's now almost February but I wanted to give it some time to think about this! Instead of resolutions I've decided to make a list of few things I'd like to accomplish or do in 2016.

  1. Dye My Hair - I've never exactly dyed my hair before, like a fully committed dye job. I've had a brief fling with ombre (that was more orange than blonde) and once dyed my hair entirely black - which is pretty much my natural hair color to being with - but nothing extremely drastic or professional. I've actually started the process of dying my hair "blonde" with this being my hair goal - but realistically I have about 1-2 more sessions before I have it. Dying hair the responsible way.
  2. Get A Tattoo - I've been thinking about this for years (seriously... years) two of my good friends have many tattoos and I've always admired the idea of one but could never really commit. I feel like this is a good year to do it for some reason. I've been thinking mostly about getting this tiny crown somewhere since I am a fan of Jean Michael Basquiat.
  3. Go Somewhere New - I love to travel and am always wishing I had the funds to so more frequently. Last year I went to California for the first time so this year I'm looking to go somewhere new as well. I have a potential trip to Pittsburgh in the making (yes I've never been!) a possible second trip to Cali but this time doing a little adventuring up and down the PCH instead of staying in LA. But what I'd really like to do is plan a weekend trip to Nantucket!
  4. Read More - Last year I somehow fell to the wayside with reading. I'm not sure how it happened but I just wasn't reading like I used to. This year I've started a book club with two other lovely ladies so I'm hoping this will get me back in my reading groove. I'm shooting for 20-25 books. Wish me luck!
  5. Buy An Investment Piece - After reading about how a Birkin Bag is a better investment than gold it got me thinking that I don't own many 'investment pieces'. A sucker for those fast fashion stores I've come to find that I've been wanting to create a more "timeless" wardrobe than a "trendy" one. I'm not sure what the investment piece will be yet.... a Saint Laurent bag? A pair of Jimmy Choos? A Burberry Scarf? But I know I'd like to save up and splurge on something that I can have for years.
  6. Walk More - I have already come to terms with never being a "work out girl". I get motivated for a short while just to lose interest very quickly. But that doesn't mean I'm not interested in being fit, I just want to go about it a different way. My mama walks every day, once in the morn - once in the evening, and she looks amazing.  I'm going to make an effort to at least walk once a day, perhaps to gradually build up to twice, then to start running again.
  7. Do Something Out Of Character - I follow a rather consistent routine so in 2016 I'd like to do something that is a little out of my own character. Maybe start a photo project, or try a food I would normally stray from, or write a song, start a podcast. I'm not sure what it'll be yet, but I want to get out of my comfort zone.
  8. EDIT EDIT EDIT - I wasn't one to jump on the Marie Kondo bandwagon but I can definitely see the appeal of editing out unnecessary items in your life. I save SO much stuff because I attach a huge amount of sentimental value on things or I think oh I might need this one day. I really want to downsize the things I own from clothes, shoes, beauty products, to the more unexpected like why do I have 300 colored pencils???
