Le Diplomate

Last weekend I took a day trip to D.C. to spend the day with two lovely college friends. It was such a treat to be reunited and we were able to celebrate by partaking in a fantastic brunch at Le Diplomate. This is a rather well known spot in the city and can be pricey however their brunch menu was affordable and delicious. Whenever I go to a more expensive restaurant I always think about how I am paying for an experience more so than simply a dine and go. Le Diplomate was definitely a dreamy experience. I highly recommend making reservations as this is a busy spot and fills up fast!

I was excited to check out Le Diplomate as a few years prior a different friend and I tried to get in, with no success. Specializing in French cuisine it's hard to miss their little corner spot. With it's patio cafe seating, red and white awnings and greenery, the outside alone makes you feel like you are in Paris over D.C. Once inside it will seem as if you've stepped back in time to a classic brasserie, with tiled floors, vintage art, plenty of wood, marble, and wicker chairs.

Just take a look at that gorgeous bar! While we sat adjacent from the bar instead of at it, we did partake in some early morning cocktails. Each of us tried a different drink (I went with Le Peche Mode) and all were amazing. I'm a creature of habit and must have a cup of tea with breakfast. I chose a tasty English Breakfast (served British style with a side of milk and a biscuit). Food wise I debated between a couple different options, the Gruyere Omeltte and Duck Sarladaise both were top contenders but I went with the Croque-Madame which was fantastic. Have you ever seen a more perfect fried egg? And I have never had a side salad that had the ideal amount of dressing on it like at Le Diplomate.

If you're in D.C. and looking for a wonderful dining experience please don't hesitate to check out Le Diplomate. I'm hoping to be able to stop into another one of the Starr Restaurant Group's while I'm in New York City this December. The Clocktower and Buddakan are calling my name....
