Longwood Gardens

Sometimes I forget how lucky I am to live in Maryland in that I am so close to many drive-able towns in other states. One of them is barely a hour away from me, Longwood Gardens in PA. I went a lot in my early 20s but hadn't been in a couple years. Late August I decided to head back to spend some time wandering the gardens and reading in the shade.

Tickets are sold online and are $25 for Adults - I recommend buying ahead. You can also buy when you get there but they can "sell out" for the time you get there which means you have to wait around. If you buy online you can simply show up, bypass the ticket line and walk in. Once there you can spend as long as you like! You truly get to see a little bit of everything while there - given that they consist of over 1,000 acres of gardens, woodlands, and meadows. Beautiful local and exotic flowers, gorgeous fountains, and more. Those lily pads are extremely deceptive - they literally are big enough to where you could sit in them. They actually had signs up letting people know that that obviously is not permitted.

As you can see in that second picture despite me going in August they were already beginning to pull out their Autumn flowers. I'd love to head there this winter to see the holiday decorations as I've always gone during the Summer or warmer months. All the twinkling lights I've seen in photos look super dreamy! They also double as a performing arts venue featuring a variety of events and performances, education lectures, courses and workshops.

If you have the chance I strongly recommend stopping buy to see Longwood Gardens, it's worth the cost of admission! While there, head up north a bit to have lunch or dinner at Terrain (which I wrote about here) while picking up some plants to add to your own garden or pop into the Brandwine Museum!
